The Robot Heart
Dust
The Robot Heart release their debut EP Dust on 5th July through Bleeding Heart Recordings, a Brighton-based record label founded in November 2009. They have been working with Rik Simpson, whose previously worked with the likes of The Cure, Portishead, Coldplay and PJ Harvey, on both this and their upcoming debut full-length album. This album showcases three songs they’ve worked on together as well as three acoustic songs.
Bleeding Heart evolved out of the infamous live music nights founder Chris Davies promoted at the Prince Albert in Brighton and who wanted to bring the bands he loves and works with to a wider audience. In the seven years since their first event Chris has built up a roster of bands that play downbeat music with folk influences.
Recently described as sounding like an ‘Icelandic Beach Boys’, The Robot Heart bring together multi-harmony singing, acoustic guitars, piano, clattering drums and electronic gadgetry. The band developed their sound hosting club nights in Brighton’s thriving indie/folk scene and has supported the likes of Gomez, Athlete and Ed Harcourt.
The band is very much the brainchild of Tom Marsh who explains how The Robot Heart came to be: 'This music is the result of finding a way through grieving the deaths of several of my friends, drug/alcohol abuse, arrests, having my heart broken and feeling close to various forms of mental illness. My nightmares bled into reality and a dark cloud formed over my home town with ghosts and spirits around me. During this time I found myself visualizing and even sketching robot hearts, a kind of motor-powered generator that would carry me through. There could never have been another name for this band.'
The band now consists of Astra Forward, Bob Dingle and Daniel Ladd as well as Tom who felt a band was the best way to bring life to the songs he’d been writing.
